The following was written by Mrs. Clara Farnsworth of Holden Missouri.
"In the fall after their marriage, Christopher and Rebecca Caroline (George) Farnsworth came to Missouri by wagon train. They spent the winter of that year (1854) in a house on Norris Creek in the northern edge of Henry County. Here their oldest son Robert Allen was born. In 1855 they moved to the southern part of Johnson County, settling near where the old homestead now stands. They were here two years, then they moved to the southeast about ten miles into Cass County. Here they lived for seven years until the Kansas and Missouri border became dangerous ground because of the Civil War which was raging between the States. The government could no longer protect the settlers and they were given notice to move out. They moved back to their Johnson County location, settling nine miles south of Holden. Their next three children were born in Cass County; the last five were born in Johnson County. In 1870 they built the house that is still standing sturdy and in good repair. It has housed four generations beneath its roof. If this old house of more than 100 years could talk it could tell of the early days of those sturdy pioneers, of the manual work of clearing the land and raising crops by what is now considered crude methods. It could tell of the joys and sorrows and disappointments, of the births, the weddings, the daily activities of its inhabitants, and of the deaths that occured within its walls. It could tell of the length of time and the labor it took to assemble and put its timbers together. Most of the white pine lumber was purchased from Lexington and Otterville, some of it hauled from Lexington by horse drawn wagons, and some shipped by freight to Holden over the newly built Missouri Pacific railroad. Another thing it would not forget to mention is the walnut staircase railing that the children of four generations enjoyed sliding down (according to the stories told me by some of the grandchildren, that was the highlight of their visit to Grandmother's house). And there would be stories to repeat of the good old times around the fireplace by some dim kerosene light or candle light. Early settlers found entertainment and contentment in their own homes." Christopher Lotspeich Farnsworth died of pneumonia on March 7, 1909 and was buried in Blairstown Missouri cemetery. The following was printed in the Holden Enterprise newspaper on March 11, 1909. "Mr. Farnsworth died at his home south of Holden, in Rose Hill Township, on Sunday March 7, 1909, in the 80th year of his age. He was born in Greene County Tennessee on May 29, 1829. He was one of twin brothers. He came to Missouri in 1854 and moved to the farm where he died in 1865. On May 2, 1854 he was married to Miss Caroline George, to this union ten children were born. His farm contained 800 acres. He was an extensive stock raiser. During the Civil War his sympathies were on the Union side, but he took no active part in the conflict. He was a just and honorable man. The funeral was on Tuesday and the internment was at Blairstown."

Christopher married Nancy Caroline GEORGE on 2 May 1854 in Greene County, Tennessee. Nancy was born on 22 Feb 1831 in Greene County, Tennessee. She died on 21 Aug 1917 in Johnson County, Missouri and was buried on 23 Aug 1917 in Blairstown, Henry County, Missouri.

Nancy Caroline (George) Farnsworth died August 21, 1917. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving mother, opening her home to the orphaned children of her sister, Elizabeth (George) Brooks. They travelled from Tennessee to live with her until they were able to care for themselves. The following is an account of her death as it appeared in the Holden Progress,
Missouri newspaper. "At daybreak on August 21, 1917 there passed from life into death, one of the oldest and best known women of our vicinity - Mrs. Caroline Farnsworth. When one who has been in our midst, one that loved all that's good and noble, goes from us, we pause and think of the life lived. Hers has been a busy life for she had reared a large family at a time when conveniences for the housewife were few. However, her duties were all carefully and faithfully performed, and she was never so satisfied as when doing something useful for a child or grandchild. Her maiden name was Nancy Caroline George; her birth occurred in Greene County Tennessee on February 22, 1831; her death at the home of her oldest son, Robert A. Farnsworth, August 21, 1917 at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 29 days. Her childhood was spent in the vicinity of her birthplace. On May 2, 1854 she was married to Christopher Lotspeich Farnsworth. To this union were born ten children. One son, Reason, died at the age of ten. The other nine children are: Robert A.; Louisa A. Fowler; Helen E. Hall; Mary L. Parkhurst; Lucy A. Parkhurst; Albert A.; Ida F. Duck; Edna E. Farnsworth; and Cyrus L. Farnsworth. Besides her sons and daughters there is one sister, 40 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. In the autumn of 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Farnsworth came from their Tennessee home to Johnson County - came in wagons, the only means of travel in those days. After remaining in Johnson County two years, they entered land in Cass County. This being their home for seven years. Order No. 11 during the Civil War caused Cass County to be vacated and they returned to Johnson County and founded the well-known homestead where they lived intil the death of Mr. Farnsworth on May 7, 1909. Since that time Mrs. Farnsworth has made her home with her children. She was reared a Lutheran, but afterwards became a Methodist and was a consistent Christian until her death. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. Davenport, a former pastor of this church. She was laid to rest in Blairstown cemetery.
