From Navarro County history...... LOUIE ELEANOR ROBINSON SPRINGER .....
Growing up on a farm in Navarro County in the early 1900s meant you had to work hard and be creative. Louie's parents, Vance Nathan and Mattie Effie Robinson, knew both. Vance raised cotton, corn and hay and also had cows and hogs on the farm. Louie remembers riding on the wagon behind the prize winning mules, Belle and Kate, as they went to the creek bottom in Line Cedar to cut blood weeds for the stock. Their Satuday trips into Blooming Grove were high lights for everyone. It was a time to buy the things that they could not raise and maybe even buy a toy at Christmas time. All the children (there were seven, with Louie being the middle child) worked on the farm when they were old enough and Mattie sewed and cooked for the hungry crew. Saturday night would see the children of the farms gathering at different farms for a party. Visiting and playing "knock on the door" were fun times. Also trips to Blooming Grove just to walk the side walks and catch up on the latest happenings are times fondly remembered. The family moved to Blooming Grove after Vance died in 1924. It was a hard time and also a time of many moves from farm to farm as Mattie worked to keep the growing family together. They raised cotton and shared the profits with the owners of the farms. On Sundays they hitched up the wagon and rode into Blooming Grove for church at the Central Baptist Church. It was there that Brother Johnson told Louie about Jesus and she was saved and baptized. While living on the Griffin farm near Blooming Grove, Louie met Fred Springer, a young man who worked on different farms during the year. Years later they would meet again and fall in love. There were wild grapes on the Griffin farm which they all picked and sold to help with the many needs of the family. Louie remembers the Whippet car which they bought while living on the farm at Cryer Creek. In 1935 Louie moved to Corsicana to work in the laundry there. She lived with Mrs Collins on Beaton Street and remembers her good friends, Jewel and Lena Cagle. It was while she lived in Corsicana that she again met Fred and he asked her to be his wife. They were married on March 23, 1946 in the court house in Dallas. They remained in Dallas where Fred was a carpenter and Lou, as she wished to be called, worked with her sister-in-law at the peanut house in Hudnall. In 1947 twins were born. Louis and Lou Ann doubled their family and they moved to a farm in Dallas near White Rock Lake. Lou's mother, sister, Irene, and brother, Kay moved with them to the huge two story farm house. Fred died in 1956 and Lou now knew what it was to raise a family without a husband. God was good in supplying all their needs. Lou loved to take her children with all their friends roller skating or to the rodeo on Saturday nights. They stayed on the farm in Dallas and turned it into a boarding stable for horses. In 1966 her son, Louis, was called to serve his country in Vietnam. It was there that he was called to heaven in 1967 and Lou mourned her beloved son. Occasional trips to Blooming Grove Rose Hill Cemetery where her parents, brother Kay, and sister Irene and Elsie are buried bring back many memories of a simple life with a loving family. Louise Eleanor Robinson Springer died on June 12, 1998.

Fred and Louise had the following children:

1130 M i Louis Daniel SPRINGER was born on 3 May 1947 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. He died on 12 Jul 1967 in Phu Yen, South Vietnam and was buried in Restland Cemetery, Dallas County, Texas.

He was twin to Lou Ann Springer.....Funeral services for PFC Louis D Springer, killed July 12, 1967, in Vietnam, will be held at 2:30 P M Thursday in Sparkman/Hillcrest Garland Road Funeral Chapel. Military rites and burial will follow in Restland Memorial Park. PFC Springer, 20, died as a result of gunshot wounds received while engaged in combat with hostile forces. He had been in the service since October and had been in the Cam Rahn Bay area of Vietnam for three and one-half months. He was the son of Mrs Fred Springer, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church. Before entering the service he was an employee of Dallas Power & Light Co. He is survived by his mother; his sister, Miss Lou Ann Springer of Dallas and his grand-mother, Mrs Mattie Robinson of Blooming Grove, Navarro County Texas. The telegram said that PFC Louis D Springer had been killed. But to Miss Lou Ann Springer it meant that "Bubba" was dead. Bubba was her nickname for her twin brother, a handsome, brown-eyed boy with black hair who used to clop through the woods around White Rock Lake on one of his quarter horses, Nelly or Eb. Before that, he was a little guy with a toy gun always trying to get Lou Ann to play soldier with him. Their Dad, Fred Springer, a carpenter, had died in 1956. Their mother was worried when Bubba was drafted. She didn't want him to go to Vietnam. As the sole surviving male in the family, he could have asked the Army to send him elsewhere than Vietnam. But, as he told Lou Ann, he wanted "to see the world". It was true that he had never been out of Texas, but Lou Ann knew that her brother didn't want to miss the war. He was drafted last October. Officials at Dallas Power & Light Co said that his job as a lineman's helper would be waiting for him when he returned. He had gone to work for the light company after he had graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the spring of 1966. He trained at Fort Polk, Louisiana. In March he came home on leave. During his leave at home, Lou Ann heard her mother urge Bubba to ask the Army for a noncombat assignment. Lou Ann knew that he wouldn't. He looked good in his uniform, she said, a 20-year-old, 6-foot-one man of about 175 pounds. He was assigned to a Transportation Corps unit in the Cam Rahn Bay area. For a time he drove trucks. Later he became the driver of a Jeep that preceded convoys through Viet Cong country. A week ago he was shot to death. Talking about the funeral plans, Lou Ann fought back tears and said I'm proud of him. I'm proud that he didn't want to burn his draft card. I'm proud that he died for a worthy cause. Perhaps Bubba would be proud of her too.
