Little hope was held Tuesday for electrician Jack Conley Walden, a Dallas skin diver who disappeared during a spear fishing tournament in the Gulf off Grand Isle Louisiana on Monday, August 15, 1960. An intensive search by Coast Guard aircraft and boats with numerous volunteers in private craft was resumed Tuesday morning in a 20 square mile area around an oil rig about 22 miles south of Grand Isle Louisiana. He was wearing an inflatible life vest but may not have been able to use it. The Coast Guard sent out a helicopter, an amphibian plane and surface craft. Mr Walden, an employee of the Times Herald, was one of about 200 contestants in the New Orleans-Grand Isle SCUBA (self contained underwater breathing apparatus) Divers International Spear Fishing Tournament. Charles Porretto, a director of the group, said that Mr. Walden apparently was swept away by a strong current while swimming from a 48-foot charter boat, the Red Snapper. Coast Guard Lt.
